On the 10th, the Thai Immigration Bureau announced the arrest of a Taiwanese man who had illegally stayed in Bangkok for 464 days. It was found that the man was also suspected of forging documents in Taiwan to fraudulently claim social welfare and insurance payments, affecting many migrant workers with an amount exceeding 1 million Thai baht (approximately 900,000 New Taiwan dollars).

According to Thai media such as The Universal Daily News and Khaosod English, the Thai Immigration Bureau announced at a press conference that during law enforcement operations targeting illegal residence and transnational crime in Thailand, a 53-year-old Taiwanese man surnamed Wei was arrested in Bangkok’s Lak Si district.

It is reported that the authorities recently received information indicating that Wei was illegally residing in the Thung Song Hong area. Wei’s visa had expired on March 17, 2023, but he stayed in Thailand for 464 days.

The report stated that the Thai Immigration Bureau, in cooperation with the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Thailand, discovered that Wei was not only overstaying his visa but was also suspected of forging medical certificates and impersonating a lawyer to deceive foreign worker groups in Taiwan, fraudulently claiming Taiwan's social welfare and insurance payments. Most of the victims were Thai migrant workers who had worked in Taiwan, with the fraudulent amount exceeding 1 million Thai baht.

After committing the crimes, Wei fled to Thailand. The police, after pinpointing his location, conducted a stakeout and found him hiding with a Thai woman in a house. He was subsequently arrested for overstaying his visa and transferred to legal authorities for prosecution.
