The Chairperson of Taiwan National Human Rights Commission, Chen Chu, stated today (12/7) that recent misinformation has led to misunderstandings and discriminatory language against Indian migrant workers in Taiwan. The committee emphasizes its commitment to eliminating discrimination and safeguarding the dignity, equality, and rights of migrant workers from all countries in Taiwan.

The government is currently negotiating a memorandum of understanding on migrant workers with India. Rumors of importing 100,000 Indian migrant workers have sparked political debates, with civil groups protesting against the increase in workers from a new country.

In a press release, the National Human Rights Commission expressed that the President of the India-Taipei Association, Manharsinh Laxmanbhai Yadav, visited Chen Chu today. They exchanged views on Taiwan National Human Rights Commission's delegation attending the Asia Pacific Forum of National Human Rights Institutions (APF) meeting in India in September and various human rights issues.

Chen Chu expressed her delight at leading the delegation to India as an observer to attend the APF annual member meeting and biennial seminar. She thanked the India-Taipei Association for its assistance in making the trip smooth and successful.

Chen Chu highlighted the shared values of freedom, democracy, and human rights between India and Taiwan. She noted India's profound influence as an ancient civilization, with Mahatma Gandhi's nonviolent resistance movement also impacting Taiwan's democratic movement.

Addressing the recent misunderstandings and discriminatory language against Indian migrant workers in Taiwan due to misinformation, Chen Chu stressed the committee's dedication to eliminating discrimination and defending the dignity, equality, and rights of migrant workers from all countries in Taiwan.

Yadav affirmed the committee's active promotion of human rights protection, including safeguarding the rights of disadvantaged groups such as foreign migrant workers. He expressed hope for enhanced cooperation and exchange between the two sides in the fields of human rights, education, and culture in the future.
